Tap debit technology has been one of the biggest innovations in payment processing this past decade.
If you’ve been living under a rock, Interac Flash (more commonly known as “tap”) is a technology introduced in 2011 that allows users to briefly hold your debit card over a payment processing terminal to pay for purchases under $100, rather than inserting your chip and entering your PIN. Many debit machines are updating further to allow Interac Flash payments via their smartphone, meaning customers no longer need to fumble with their wallets at the checkout.
This service has obvious benefits for both the customer and merchant – save time, save money, right? Well, there’s one potential downside… and a solution.
The Downside
Most traditional tap-and-go payments let customers pay instantly, without the option of adding a tip. This has created an obvious rift within the hospitality industry, where many employees rely heavily on tips for their income.
There’s an Answer for That
At Inclera, we have our clients’ best interest in mind. Many payment processing providers have identified a solution, allowing serving staff to request a tip amount before guests “tap out” and leave.
Depending on the model of your debit terminal, you can manually enter a tip amount, or select predetermined percentages. The customer selects their tip amount, and then the tap payment is accepted. Easy.
We’re always looking for new ways to best serve our clients, and their customers. If you’d like to learn more about Inclera, contact us. We’re here to help.
